RTS Waste prepares for the annual visit to the races…

The Epsom Derby is Britain's richest horse race. Taking place May 31st and June 1st this year. RTS Waste will be present for the third year in a row providing 200 waste containers from 120, 240 and 1100 Litre Euro bins, Rear End Loaders and Portable Skip Compactors. Since the early 16th Century the preparations for refreshments of the visitors has been on a gigantic scale. Epsom Derby is well patronized, owing to the easy distance from London, invitations extend to nobles, heroes and bucks to the turf. Best dresses and hats for the fair ladies, top tips for horses and RTS Waste present fresh paint on waste containers and smart uniforms for the drivers. We recorded some 108 tonnes of waste was collected over a 5 day period, this is going to be processed through our new Material Recovery Facility this year and we will endeavour to meet our zero land target where Dry Mixed Recycled (DMR) waste is concerned.

Wag and Drag reduces Carbon Footprint

The history of Epsom portrays carriages converging on this village from every quarter of the compass, with approach roads also full of pedestrians approaching the vast, breezy expanse of grass covered hills now referred to as the Epsom Downs. In 2013 the public's eye is very much focused on the environmental issues and reducing the carbon emissions that surround the logistics of such major events. RTS Waste have a new Skip lorry that utilises a wag and drag trailer which will half the number of journeys to drop off and collect containers.

Unbeaten Service

Epsom Race Course is not only home to the worlds greatest flat race, it prides itself on a professional facility venue for Conferences, Exhibitions, Weddings and Location Filming. Excellent service and efficiency is appreciated by visitors enjoying a fantastic time. RTS Waste provide unbeaten quality of service for all their customers, this is why we are invited back year on year.

This is notification that RTS London and Kent are running a normal Scheduled Collection Service on Bank Holiday Monday 27th May 2013. The office will not be open for bookings on that day therefore special requests are to be made in advance.

Mobius Waste Recycling Group, our parent group at RTS Waste Management, is always looking to challenge and push boundaries of traditional methods, bringing innovative ideas to its vehicle operations. Waste is not just about moving something you no longer need, there are backroom things we do to continuously improve.

Did you know that around 30% of trucks running cost is just fuel alone? In some cases it's close to 40%, and the reason we focus on fuel use as well as our carbon footprint.

Looking Greener

In the last few months we have added or renewed 42% of the fleet, this has improved our CO2 emissions to euro 5 or higher. Fuel usage has reduced resulting in improved MPG and therefore automatically reducing our carbon footprint, good news all-round.

We have also looked at the way manufacturers make and sell trucks and we have broken the mould there too by specifying a different wheel plan allowing better fuel consumption, tyre wear and manoeuvrability.

Out with the old. In with the New…

By the end of June 13 we will also have replaced the entire fleet with a new vehicle telematics system similar to those found in F1 cars. Gone are the days of merely tracking vehicles. This exciting innovation gives us 2 further ghost people (metaphorically) in the truck, a driver trainer and manager, we are able to monitor everything a driver is doing in just about real time.

We will obtain reports on the driving style of the driving including harsh acceleration yes; trucks today are so powerful it is possible to wheel spin the tyres, harsh braking, harsh cornering, fuel consumption, engine idling, speed, even the number of times the footbrake has been pushed or the % of accelerator used. The full reports will be discussed with each driver to improve his techniques and get the best performance from the vehicle and its many components.

Improving Safety

Safety does not escape our thinking either; we are now rolling out on all vehicles above 18 tonnes (gross weight) a 4 way view recording camera system, simultaneously recording left and right side views as well at the front and rear of the truck.

This will provide clear evidence in the event of and accident, the driver also has a cab based monitor to enable him/her to view the vital blind spots, particularly relevant when in London with the increasing number of cyclists and experienced car users who have little logic when attempting to pass these vehicles on the inside, our advice is keep clear at all times and don't place yourself in harms way, in many cases the truck driver cannot see you.

RTS Waste has been a major sponsor for the Dartfordians Rugby Club for the third year running and proud of their results this season.

Summary of the season:
Dartfordians season has gone from strength to strength from U6s through to the 4th XV
throughout the 2012/13 season. The 1st XV had a good pre season and travelled to newly
promoted Kings College Hospital with Darts one of the favourites to gain promotion into
London SE 3. However on the day KCH had other ideas and ran out convincing winners.
Since that day Darts 1s have only had a few off days and now need to win just one of the
last two games to gain automatic promotion. Some really good rugby has seen them
beating Hastings & Bexhill 49 – 0, Gravesendians 47 – 0 and Shootershillians 100 – 10.
The 4th XV had won their league by Christmas and the 2s and Angels (3s) currently sit
top of their leagues. This has been an incredibly successful season so far for the seniors
as they look to close out the last few weeks, with an elongated season due to the poor
weather having an impact….The 1st XV will also be playing in the Kent Salver Final on
April 28th at Ashford RFC.
The Junior club has had a great season also, with many club members representing Kent
and a recently departed player to Blackheath representing England U18s Clubs & Schools.
The U14s, 16s and 18s are all in Kent Finals still due to be played and the Minis Kent
Festivals still to take place – again postponed due to the weather….Finals are on April 28th…
Many sides have been on tour with the Seniors in Bath over Easter and the U16s/U17s
travelling abroad for their rugby….The Vets will be off to Bordeaux in November for their
usual weekend in France….Talking of the French, old friends AOC Libournais came to
Darts the day before England beat France and continued a long history of friendship, with
another great day at the Club…..
It’s been a good season off the pitch with the much awaited building development finally
getting under way and should be completed by October 2013. A gym and new changing
rooms will ensure the club has a facility that will cater for the future plans and ensure we
provide the best for our members….
Xmas saw the usual Coaches Evening and Dec 22nd saw 120 members sitting down over
two sessions for Christmas dinner….
Various other fund raising events have been held and the club also saw good numbers join
the throng to watch the Six Nations. There have also been 3 really successful pre match
lunches with the final one due on April 13th ahead of the home re-match versus Kings College
The postponed Junior Club Presentation is likely to take place on May 12th and the Annual
Club Supper will be at the Club on May 10th…..
All in all, a really great season, but some really important matches to close out and maintain
the success rate into the Summer….
