The Location Of The Skip

When disposing of waste using a skip hire service, it is very important that you think about where the skip will be located.

Firstly, it is very important to remember that you cannot locate a skip directly below trees. The typical access required for a skip to be delivered and collected needs to be at least 10ft wide, 32ft long, and has a gross weight of around 18 tonnes with a full skip.

If the location that you were considering placing the skip is unsuitable, you may have to place the skip in a different location. Additionally, please remember to get all the necessary permissions regarding skip hire.

If you would like to place a skip on a public highway, a permit is required. However, if you need a skip permit, please speak to the RTS Waste Management team. We can arrange a permit when you place your order. The typical time for permits to become available is 7 working days, however in some cases they can be available sooner. (Fees vary depending on the area and placement)

Who Is Responsible For Waste Disposed Of Through A Skip Hire Waste Disposal Service?

Please remember that you are legally responsible for the contents of the skip you hire. This means that you need to ensure that the waste disposed in the skip meets our Terms and Conditions.

It is also very important that you do not dispose of waste irresponsibly. This includes overloading the skip. An overloaded skip is a hazard; the lorry may struggle to lift the skip and the overfilled waste could be a danger to other people as the skip is being lifted or transported. As such, make sure that the contents of a skip never exceed the height of the skip’s sides.

Additionally, if a skip is overloaded, the lorry driver reserves the right to either remove excess waste from the skip, or refuse to remove the skip altogether. In the event that the driver refuses to remove a skip, a wasted journey charge may incur.

Also, please remember that you must never set fire to the waste in your skip.
