Avoid “Dodgy Waste Firms”
With regards to the disposal of commercial and business waste. It is very important that you remember that the business that generates the waste is responsible for its disposal. You must not allow any waste carrier to dispose of the waste illegally and you must report them if they do so.
Did you know that between 2016 and 2017, more than 850 new illegal waste sites had been discovered, resulting in a daily average of two sites shut down? Additionally, the Home Office has issued a warning regarding “dodgy waste firms” as such organisations can operate as a cover for criminal activities including theft, fraud, and drugs.
One way in which you could avoid waste firms which dispose of waste in illegal and irresponsible manners is to check that your waste carrier is registered to do so. You can check if a business is registered by visiting the Environment Agency website.
