The Kent Messenger Newspaper  published editorial about Crossways entering the  Dartford & Gravesham Business Awards. Have a read for yourself……

Waste management, recycling and skip hire is one of the most competitive of industries, but that doesn't faze family run business Crossways Recycling Ltd based in Swanscombe.

Since May 2006 the company, which now has 26 employees plus additional staff shared by parent company Mobius Reyclcing Group on the admin side has grown.

The company tries to source plant equipment and supplies on its doorstep as a first option to support local business. However occasionally it is necessary to import mechanical parts from specialist machinery. The new recycling plant at Swanscombe, completed in 2013 was designed in-house using equipment and local labour and suppliers of materials.

The company has developed a strong brand presence with it fleet of vehicles and is community conscious donating free skips to the Gravesham Street Champions Scheme and Dartfordians Rugby Club waste collection as well as team sponsorship for three years running.

Marketing manager Jan Lloyd said "We treat our customers as individuals, not just an account number. We handle every customer differently because we get to know them. From  local primary schools and shop keepers to larger organizations in the area, such as Bluewater shopping centre, our team tries to find an affinity and understanding of their recycling and waste management needs."

There are light hearted moments in this business too, including the search for a rocking horse thrown out by builders and diamond rings which found their way into a skip. Then there was also the customer who forgot he needed his car the following day following the delivery of a skip in front of the garage. Not one to ask for help, he erected some scaffold boards up,over and down from the skip then attempted – unsuccessfully – to drive his own car over it.

Crossways Recycling is just one of the entrants in the Dartford and Gravesham Business Awards 2013, supported by the Messenger.
