How is wood waste recycled?

Waste wood and timber is usually divided into recycling plants for processing. The pieces are then loaded into a powerful wood shredder that breaks the pieces through a variety of processes.

Various sizes of the recycled wood is used for different things. The larger pieces are re-circulated and the fine material is used for animal bedding. Other sizes are used in broad mills. The process is efficient in ensuring that there is no waste.

RTS Waste has our own Material Recovery Facility (MRF) which is where your wooden waste goes after collection to be recycled. If you have waste wood or timber in need of collecting, contact a member of our helpful team today by calling 020 7232 1711.

Can you burn waste wood?

Commercial premises and builders should not use bonfires to dispose of any wood or timber waste. The burning of controlled waste is an offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The only exception to this is the burning of diseased wood on site.

How to dispose of hazardous treated waste wood

The Environment Agency has classified disused railway sleepers that had been treated with creosote or copper chromium Arsenic (CCA) as hazardous waste wood. This type of wood waste is unable to be recycled at your local tip and needs specialist removal.
